Welcome to geography in the 21st century!  Explore A World Of Ideas!

The Indian Institute of Geographical Studies (TIIGS) and Army Public School (APS), Bangalore have collaborated to establish the GeoVidyaa Geography Centre of Excellence (“GeoVidyaa Centre” for short) at the campus of the Army Public School, Kamaraj Road, Bangalore. Here is a map to show you where it is.  (The map will open in a new tab/window)

The GeoVidyaa Centre was inaugurated on 22 October 2010.

Since then, we have held many workshops for teachers and students. Other activities are also being organized.

At the GeoVidyaa Centre, students and teachers are not just passive consumers of geographic knowledge. They are also produce geographic knowledge.

This is a place where you can explore a world of ideas.

If you are a student, you will see many connections between geography and your own life. You will be able to understand natural events (for example: earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, climate change, volcanoes, distribution of plants and animals) more clearly. You will also be able to understand how human beings affect Earth and how Earth affects us (for example: pollution, building cities, transportation changes), and how we organize ourselves on Earth (for example: how human settlements are arranged on Earth, how people migrate, how are our populations changing, what are sacred places and how do we use them). You will be able to prepare yourself for many careers as a geographer.

If you are a teacher, you will learn both what is in geography and interesting ways in which you may teach these to your students – so that it is enjoyable and informative to you and your students.

Parents can also benefit from activities at the GeoVidyaa Centre – exciting learning for the whole family.

TIIGS plans to help develop a network of locally-operated GeoVidyaa Centres throughout the country. Would you like to set up a GeoVidyaa Centre at your school? If yes, contact us.

Let us make dull, boring, dead geography learning a thing of the past.

Let us open our minds to the thrill of exploring a world of ideas, geography for the 21st century.

In this effort, we seek many kinds of partners. We have found some already and we need others who bring other resources to help with this cause.

We would prefer long-term partnerships, as this is effort is a process, not an event.

Please contact us for further dialogue.
